VANE YANES
I’m Vane Yanes, a third-year at the University of Florida studying Advertising with a minor in Public Relations and a minor in Media Production and Management.
I’ve always been a creative who’s been drawn to fashion, beauty, and the people behind them. What started off as a love for drawing and dancing as a child, evolved into sketching and painting in high school. Now that has manifested as a deep love for photography and creative direction in college.
I’ve been working with real clients since the age of 16, and have learned to manage expectations, send quality deliverables and most importantly, I’ve built my own creative identity. I currently serve as the youngest Editor-in-Chief in Strike Magazine Gainesville history, managing 16 distinct teams and a total of 216 staff members.
My two biggest strengths are curiosity and cultural awareness. I’ll always ask why and how, because possibly learning something will always outweigh any sliver of embarrassment. Being curious from a young age is what has allowed me to be confident on sets with equipment and direction, become a leader in the largest student-run magazine in the nation and to simply refine my creative eye. My deep-rooted love for art history and pop culture has helped me stay on top of current trends while understanding what has been done in the past. I will always be the first to see a new magazine cover drop, a pop culture scandal or a change in positions at a large publication.
My love for creativity doesn’t end at my work, I bring it into all of my hobbies! I love analyzing films with friends, re-watching Severance, learning design in my free time, and I’m an avid lover of award shows (I will pay for a streaming service subscription every time for the Oscars and Grammys)
